6th grade music
Students in 6th grade music will spend time focused on understanding, writing, composing,singing, and performing the elements of music. They will demonstrate their knowledge of the Indiana standards for exploring music through written work and performance.
Assignments
Work will be assigned in class using the students' school Gmail and Google Drive accounts. All assignments can be completed during class time. A student may have to finish an assignment at home if he or she is absent or would like to spend additional time on an assignment.

Standard 3 improvising
6.3.1 Improvise rhythmic accompaniments to songs using pitched classroom instruments.
Standard 4 creating
6.4.1 Plan and perform a rhythmic speech composition with text based on themes such as teams, cars, or places. Include performance indicators such as tempo, dynamics, and changes in vocal timbre.
Standard 5 reading
6.5.1 Read, notate, and perform quarter, dotted quarter, eighth, half, dotted half, sixteenth, and whole notes, and quarter, half, and whole rests in meters of 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, 3/8, alla breve, and asymmetrical meters.
6.5.2 Identify and notate rhythms and melodies from aural examples.
